Sixth Form (Y12 + Y13)

Sixth Form

Welcome. It is good to know that you are considering us for your Sixth Form studies.

At The Park we are able to support you as an individual to select the A Level courses that will best suit you and your future ambitions.  The choice of courses will be tailored to your own style of learning and your subject preferences or needs in preparation for higher education, whether this be via university, apprenticeship, or employment.

We will be with you every step of the way whilst you work towards your goals.  If you do not know what you wish to study, then we will investigate with you the enormous range of courses available, so that you are satisfied that your choice is the best for your future. Choices will be realistic for you, whether you wish to consider university in the UK or abroad, Oxbridge, a job with in-built training, or an apprenticeship in industry.

Subjects on offer in the Sixth Form:

We can also support students who wish to sit an A-level in their native language such as Russian, Chinese, German.

EPQ

The Park School offers students the opportunity to complete an Extended Project Qualification alongside their Sixth Form studies. This involves a student setting up a research project on a topic that is of particular interest and relevance to their future studies. An EPQ is equivalent to half an A Level and accrues UCAS points. It should not be considered instead of an A Level, but as an enhancement to A Level or BTEC subjects.

Universities and employers are increasingly favouring students who have completed an EPQ as it demonstrates project management, analytical and evaluation skills, communication and writing skills – all essential qualities required for university and future working life.

The student will select a topic for study, which must be approved by the exam board, and staff at school will mentor the student for this project. Ideally, the subject chosen should be relevant to future studies or employment demonstrating commitment to the subject. Once the research is completed students are usually required to write an extended essay (5,000 words) and give a presentation explaining the research and the write-up.

Post-18 Study

If you have already spent two years studying A Levels, but things have not worked out as well as you had hoped, come and talk to us about taking an extra subject, improving your grades, or taking an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) in preparation for a different course at university.  Year 14 can be spent working part-time, while you also enhance your studies with us.  Come and talk us – we look forward to meeting you.

I had more help in my first day at The Park regarding my university application that I had received in the last two years at my previous school.   Current Sixth Form Student – part-time in Year 14
