Engine Club in National Press

February 26, 2020

In February, Motorcycle News featured physics teacher (and motorcycle racing champion) Mr Andy Gill in an article about his passion for Engine Club where fortunate Y10 & Y11 students learn the practicalities of building engines and motorbikes.

‘Engine Club’ members have had the opportunity to strip and rebuild a Kawasaki ZXR400 racer before entering it into a round with the British Motorcycle Racing Club (where it won a race in the Open Class in 2019).

“When you teach physics it can sometimes be sterile when it’s in a room and you don’t link it to anything that the students can see, or that excites them,” Andy told MCN.  “So the fact that you can link physics to bike racing excites me. The skills you learn doing this, you don’t get anywhere else.”

The students get to take an active role in every stage of the deconstruction and rebuild – allowing them to apply what they’ve learned in class.
