Performing Arts

A wide variety of drama and music opportunities give our pupils the chance to experience the performing arts in a variety of forms.  From annual Junior and Senior Drama productions, to individual ABRSM and LAMDA exams and through support for those wishing to take part in productions at the Octagon Theatre, or singing as a chorister in nearby Sherborne Abbey a wealth of talent is uncovered and nurtured.  Taking part is strongly encouraged and Debating and Public Speaking provoke lively discussions on a wealth of topics.  Both as part of a team and as individuals, children thrive and grow in confidence as they perform and represent their School.

In additon to curriculum drama, the school stages two productions each year encouraging every pupil to take part in some way whether it is as part of the cast or the supporting stage management crew. From set and costume design to lighting and front of house - there is a role for every pupil's talents.

LAMDA qualification

Our drama department follows the internationally recognised LAMDA qualifications. From the elocution examinations of the past to today’s practical communication and performance assessments, LAMDA’s examinations provide each and every learner with the skills and the confidence to succeed in life. The school supports those wishing to pursue this qualification and provides a number of practical perfomance opportunities throughout the school year.

Many students play an instrument or sing and we encourage all in the nurturing of their musical abilities. Every year we hold a Music Concert, usually in the spring term, to showcase the whole school's talents.
