Psychology (Sixth Form)
STAFF: Mrs N. ArcherPsychology A Level (Sixth Form)
Psychology provides students with a wide knowledge base and range of skills. Through studying Psychology you will develop a greater awareness of yourself and of others. Psychology plays a key role in lifelong learning and so opens up options for the future. The value of psychological skills is widely recognised by employers, particularly in the fields of leadership, management and human resources. Psychology is particularly useful for those pursuing careers in advertising, the media, medicine, public affairs and teaching.
For AS level, students need to become familiar with four techniques for collecting and analysing data: self-report, experiment, observation and correlation. They also build knowledge and understanding of 15 Psychology studies. For unit 3 students choose to specialise in two of the following options: Forensic Psychology, Health and Clinical Psychology, Psychology of Sport and Exercise and Psychology of Education. Finally unit 4 is a more synoptic approach to Psychology bringing together different approaches, perspectives, methods, issues and debates covered throughout the course.
The course is externally assessed with two exams at the end of Year 12 and Year 13 as outlined below:
AS level
Unit one: Psychological Investigations
Unit two: Core Studies
