P.E. & Games

The school offers a wide range of sports, with team training sessions during lunch times and after school.  There is extensive participation in friendly matches, South Somerset Schools Games Association leagues, Somerset County events, South West ISA tournaments and National ISA Finals.

In year 7 - The focus is on a wide, varied and challenging programme, catering for different aptitudes and interests, further developing competence and confidence.  Using the body as a means of expression and communication is a concept that is explored.  Particular etiquette and safety requirements for each activity are highlighted.

In year 8 - Emphasis will be placed on an understanding of mechanical principles leading to efficient execution of quality movement in relation to recognised activities.  Pupils should develop a responsible attitude towards others and the environment in which they work and recognise individual contribution to a group effort.

In year 9 – Development of fitness programmes in relation to the physiological requirements of the activities undertaken, whilst maintaining flexibility and further developing stamina and strength. 

In year 10 - Understanding and evaluation of  how well they and others have achieved what they set out to do, appreciate strengths and weaknesses and look at ways of improving.  Pupils take responsibility for personal hygiene in relation to vigorous activity and take greater responsibility for setting personal targets.

In year 11 - The overall programme is more relaxed with the emphasis being on recreational participation.  Opportunity is given to help coach and officiate and, in doing so, acquire the necessary skills of negotiation.

The activities covered throughout the school are: Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Cross-country, Football, Handball, Health & Fitness, Hockey, Lacrosse, Netball, Rounders, Swimming Tag Rugby Tennis, and Volleyball.

During the school year September 2005 – July 2006 The Park School sports players have achieved:-
1 team South West ISA Tournament Bronze Medallists
2 teams South Somerset Schools Cup – Runners-up
1 team South Somerset Schools league CHAMPIONS!
Plus the following individual attainments:-
9 x South Somerset CHAMPIONS
1 x Somerset County CHAMPION
9 x South West ISA CHAMPIONS
2 x NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
