FAMILY QUIZ EVENING - 6th October Unfortunately, due to clashes with other South West events, we have decided to postpone the Quiz until early in the New Year. The new date will be published as soon as possible, in order for you to gather your team. The PTA would like to thank everyone for their continued support.
MARY GLASGOW MAGAZINES Parents of pupils studying French and/or German in Senior school should have received a letter this week concerning this year's subscripton to the very popular Mary Glasgow Magazines series for Modern languages. Those interested in ordering the relevant publications are asked to return the reply slip attached to the letter for the attention of Mr Winter, by Wednesday 10th October.
TRIP TO ICELAND Last term about 20 students expressed an interest in a visit to Iceland. I have subsequently gone ahead and organised a 7 day (6 night) trip for the end of the Easter holidays in 2008. I am currently waiting confirmation of dates and optional activities but with a threatened postal strike, I now expect a further delay. Our proposed trip will visit most of Southern Iceland and students will be able to see spectacular waterfalls, volcanic features, coastal features, the plate boundary between the North American and Eurasian plates and the icecap. We will swim in the geothermally heated Blue Lagoon and, weather permitting, go whale watching. Iceland is very expensive but I have asked for full board so the trip will be fully inclusive at somewhere around £1,000.00. Parents will be welcome to pay in instalments. I hope to send out more information, dates and the exact price in the near future. Mrs Shillito
SQUASH AND BOWLS The school has more youngsters playing squash than ever before, both at lunchtime and during P.E. at Yeovil Squash and Bowls Club. While every effort is made to remind players of safety issues, it is also important that this is reinforced by parents. The school has a limited number of goggles that the youngsters are free to use. However if parents wish to buy goggles for their children, I would recommend the Dunlop black rim type that can be purchased from Tony Pryce in Yeovil for £19.99. (01935 411313). I would be happy to place a bulk order and I should be able to obtain a discount of around 15%. Please leave a message with the name of the child and contact phone number at the school office. The Bowls section of the Yeovil Squash and Bowls club are starting a schools session on their indoor courts on Saturday mornings and Monday afternoons at 4. One of the coaches will be Edna Bessells, the new England Ladies Outdoor Bowls Champion. These sessions are available for Year 6 children upwards. Please contact me for further details. Mr. Baker

RETURN OF CUPS – PRIZEGIVING If any cups are still in your possession after being presented to you at last year's Prizegiving, would you return them as soon as possible, so that we may present them at this year's ceremony. Thank you
FLORENCE VISIT - DECEMBER 2008 Mr Bate and myself are planning to undertake an art visit to Florence, Italy in December 2008 (last week of term 10th – 14th December) for five days. The total cost is £439. This includes half board, flights from Bristol, visits and entries to galleries, museums and other sites. The visit is open to all senior pupils from Year 7 – 13. There will be drawing activities and pupils will be encouraged to fill a sketchbook as well as take photographs.
To secure your place a deposit of £150 is required no later than 10th December 2007. In order to be viable – 20 pupils minimum are required for the tour cost of £439. Cheques should be made payable to The Park School. For further information, please contact Mrs Briggs, Head of Art.
