Iris Dobrescu on completing their KS1 Star Charts.

GCSE SCIENCE COURSEWORK DAYS

Coursework day for Year 11 students will be on Wednesday, 24th February.  Students will be briefed over the next week on the structure of the coursework and also about any work they need to bring with them.

JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS

A huge thank you to all of those who took part in our Super Animals Competition to raise money for Yeovil Hospital Children's Ward.  The super winners were Jonathan Hayes and

Esmee Williamson who each take home a yummy prize!

Our fundraising for this worthy cause continues after half term so look out for more competitions!

Miss Williams – Year 4

JUNIOR SPORTS REPORT

Congratulations to Callum Nott who was presented with his swimming medals at an awards ceremony celebrating the Yeovil District Swimming Club Championships.  He won medals for the 100m Individual Medley (3rd place) and

25m Front Crawl (5th place), swimming against boys two years older than himself in the Medley!  A great result – Olympics 2016 here we come?!!

Well done to Year 5 and 6 Girls Netball Team who played against St Gildas on Monday.  Whilst they didn't win, they acquitted themselves well and played a good game.

The u11 Boys Football Team faced a tough challenge in their league match against Chilthorne Domer on Tuesday.  They played a fair game and were unfortunate not to score more goals than they did.  Well done Team!

YEAR 11 GCSE ENGLISH

Parents should receive, via their child, an information sheet on English revision and preparation for pupils to work on over half-term.

PARLIAMENT TRIP

The school trip to Parliament is just a few weeks away on Monday after half-term (22nd February).  There are still a few students who have not paid whom I will be contacting shortly.

We leave at 5.30am and should be back at around 8pm.  We are expected at St Stephen's Gate at

10.04am so please can everyone be at the school promptly for the early start.  It would be a pity to be late and miss our place.  I am told that

David Laws MP will definitely meet us (barring any emergencies) after the tour and then at 1pm we will set off to Covent Garden. Students need warm clothing (uniform is not necessary) lunch, supper and some pocket money (£5) for Covent Garden.  This part of London has a very interesting history which students might like to look up on Google.  Students will be expected to explore Covent Garden in pairs or groups and younger students will be with the staff.  It would be helpful if I could receive all mobile phone numbers in an envelope marked for my attention and for students to bring mobiles with them.  If any parent wishes to contact me, may I suggest that they phone me at home on 01935 424911 at around 6pm when I am usually in.  If there is no response, please leave a message on the answer phone and please repeat your own phone number.  I do plan to have a meeting on Thursday lunchtime before half-term at 2pm (11th).

My apologies for the re-scheduling of the trip.  You might wish to know that David Laws now has a new personal assistant!!!

There will be a total of three members of staff on the trip.  It promises to be an exciting day.

Mr S Baker

YEAR 10 BTEC SPORT COURSE WORK

The Year 10 students have been set their Muscular System Assignment.  The following deadlines for submission of work applies.

Task 1 – 2nd March, Task 2 – 16th March,

Task 3 – 24th March, Task 4 – 20th April.  Failure to meet deadlines could result in work not being available for external verification and ultimate failure of this subject.

YEAR 9 'OPTIONS' PARENTS' EVENING

WEDNESDAY, 24TH FEBRUARY 5-7PM

The Headmaster and Staff look forward to seeing as many parents as possible at this meeting to explain the options table distributed this week.  The Headmaster will briefly introduce the process and parents will have the chance to discuss their child's choices with subject staff.

Thank you.

The Year 9 Team

WORLD BOOK DAY

THURSDAY, 4TH MARCH, 2010

The PTA are organising a 'Dress as your Favourite Book Character' competition.  Please come to school in costume and the judging will take place immediately after assembly.  If your child does not wish to take part they may come to school in Mufti.  Please could all children, whether in the competition or Mufti, bring a donation of £1 towards our funds.

Thank you.

Mrs D Williamson – PTA

HALF-TERM GRADES

Juniors (Years 1-6) and Seniors (Years 7-10)

half-term grades are being issued to parents this week.  These will provide a snapshot of effort and attainment over this half-term.  If you have any query on your child's performance please contact the Tutor initially after half-term.

COMMEMORATION SERVICE

Parents please note that this year there are two separate Commemoration Services being held this year at the United Reformed Church,

Princes Street, Yeovil.  This is due to the fact that St John's Church is undergoing extensive repairs.

The United Reformed Church have let us kindly use their premises this year and the Junior Commemoration Service is being held on

Thursday, 25th March at 2pm and the Senior Commemoration Service is being held on

Friday, 26th March at 22pm.  It has had to be split because it would be difficult to accommodate everyone in the Church at the same time.

I hope that you can attend one of these services, which is always a splendid occasion in the school year.

P W Bate – Headmaster

DEBATING CLUB

The next debate will be on THURSDAY after

half term.  Emily Mangles and Aaron Newbury will propose that 'New men are a bore'.  Magenta Cousins and Thomas Sankey will oppose.

In this week's Battle of the Burkhas the Burkhas won.  In terms of debating skills Natasha Dennington and Ellen Bazley just edged it from Holly Moffitt and Jeannette Franks.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Once again, The Park School trounced all the other local schools to win the District Final of the Rotary Club Public Speaking Competition.

Aaron Newbury. Thomas Sankey and

Adam Coppard gave a confident performance, discussing the topic of 'when a boy becomes a man'.  The team were complimented on their clarity, use of appropriate gestures to emphasise meaning and the use of humour.  Aaron also won the Best Speaker Award for his delivery of a six minute speech without notes.

They now progress to the South West Regional Final at King's School, Bath, in March.

Congratulations to the team who are now Champions for both Rotary Club and English Speaking Union!  What a Team!
