World Book Day: tales of the unexpected

As part of our school's celebration of World Book Day pupils were invited to dress up as their favourite book character, the best dressed ones gained prizes from the PTA for first and second place in each junior department class, and the best dressed groups or individuals in the senior school. (Class pictures of pupils in character are shown below).

Some our most colourful characters in the Junior Department proudly wear costumes of their favourite book characters.

As a special event, Year 9 had the opportunity to share their literary skills with young friends in the junior section of the school. They had been working on a project during the previous week which had required them to create a 3 minute tale designed for either infants or juniors.

Senior pupils, Isabelle, Laura and Alice read their illustrated stories to Year 1 pupils, Ivy, Matthew, Marco and Cameron.

On the morning of World Book Day students were enthusiastically greeted by their audience, many of whom were suitably attired as their favourite book character.

Stories were shared in turn to small groups of younger pupils, who found the experience very stimulating and exciting as they were introduced to characters they had never read or heard about before! In fact tales that were quite unexpected!

Jacinta, Oscar and Lucy win first prize in the senior section as The Oompah Lumpahs!

Louis, India, Diyannah,Grace, Roberta, Jay and Iris.

Ivy, Marco, Cameron and Matthew.
