Swimming Gala 2010

6th July 2010

Our Swimming Gala, just like Sports Day held the previous day, was to be held on another glorious day.

Rivals, but all friends together!

The blue water of the out door pool at Street looked very inviting, and so the scene was set for another battle of the Houses!  Would Livingstone come last again?  Would the sporting talent in Ashley prevail for a second day running?  They were certainly in a confident mood.

Ashley took the early lead, but after six races there was barely a point between the Houses.  At the half way point Ashley were winning, Shaftesbury were only a few points behind.

Excitement builds as the relays begin

Then it started to go wrong for Ashley, one competitor (mentioning no names!) swam using the wrong stroke this nearly evened up the points between them and their main rival Shaftesbury.  It was neck and neck right up to the last few relays, but Ashley's luck had run out as one disqualification followed another in the relays for technical offences.  This gave Shaftesbury the title for the third year in succession, and so they had the honour of being photographed together as school Swimming Champions.  Therefore, although the accolade goes to Shaftesbury, all competitors deserve congratulations for the sportsmanlike way in which they took to the water, despite some last minute adjustments to teams.

Many congratulations Shaftesbury.  The winning team is pictured here with Mrs Hopkinson, the Head of House with her staff team Mr Winter and Mrs Briggs.
