Swimming Gala
8th July 2008After a most exciting Sports Day, our pupils were in the right frame of mind to give of their very best in the last major sporting event of the term – the swimming gala. Ashley were keen to defend their title, opened proceedings with a fine record breaking victory from Yasmin Andrews-Urvoy in the 25m backstroke for year 7&8. Shaftesbury immediately responded with Jared Rufus winning the year 9&10 25m backstroke. They then reeled off 4 more victories in a row and were becoming optimistic of winning the championship. However, Ashley had other ideas as our National Champion, Emily Wilson easil won the 25 m butterfly race and in the process gaining a new school record. Yasmin sustained Ashley's momentum by breaking the 50m backstroke record for year 7&8.

However, amidst all the excitement from pupils in Ashley and Shaftesburt, Slessor kept picking up vital points with a number of first and second places and even produced an outstanding team effort in the backstroke relay, and by so doing breaking the existing school record. However, by the close, Shaftesbury were just too strong in depth and moved away to be clear winners by 16 points.
