Year 7 pupil Jessica Wittack floats to success in Somerset's Waterlinks Project and in the process won for our school £100 of prize money.

Waterlinks is an interconnected web of twenty one community inspired projects that harness water for the benefit of local communities, visitors, business, wildlife and the wider environment.  One of their strategies to involve the community was to ask schools to take part in their Design a Postcard Competition.  As part of Year 7's  work in geography Mrs Shillito (Head of Geography) gave her pupils the details and asked them to design a postcard that attempted to summarise the Waterlinks Project.  Mrs Briggs (Head of Art) selected the best entries and these were duly entered.

Waterlinks has also informed us that two more of our Year 7 pupils were highly commended, namely Harry Yeoman and Harry Grinter.  Their designs are shown below.   The prize money will be used to purchase extra resources in the geography and art departments.  Jessica will be given a book token from the school.

Waterlinks was competing against five other projects for £50 million from The Big Lottery Fund.   We have since heard that Waterlinks was not successful in their bid, however, Chair of the group, Anne Fraser, said in a press release, "I am confident that we will be able to find sufficient funding and backing to ensure that many of the projects do come to fruition".
