Students' Examination Art Display 2009

10th June 2009

An amazing display of work from our GCSE and A level art students is now on show and for parents and visitors to view.  The GCSE coursework can be seen in the reception area and outside the Headmaster's office, the GCSE exam work is displayed in the squash court and AS/ A Level work is being shown in the library.

The work is very diverse this year with projects ranging from atmosphere, landscapes and environments, animals and their habitats to decoration and stereotypes. Students have worked in a range of media including drawing and painting, textiles and fibre arts, sculpture, photography and mixed media work, some of this variety is shown in the accompanying photographs. This year's examination title was "I, me and mine", where pupils have interpreted the question in a very creative manner with work ranging from using mirrored images, patchwork, personal objects, journeys and school life. There have been two live projects this year including two murals of squash players painted at Yeovil Squash Club and a junior playground project where art work was created for display and use in the playground.

AS Level students have created one design and fine art project based around the theme of natural forms. Work includes a printed oriental inspired fan using snowflake patterns, a Japanese kimono based on butterfly wings amongst others. A diverse range of media has been explored this year in a range of art disciplines including film and illustration.

Student were involved in displaying their own work this year and Mrs Briggs Head of Art, has described the show this year as being of an excellent standard, highlighting the variety in the use of many different media. The resulting displays show an enormous range of creative ideas.

The full Art Show was displayed until June 19th.  The school was asked by EDEXCEL (examination board) to send some pieces to them, these would be shown to other Art teachers on future training days as examples of good practice.
