South West ISA Cross country Championships
9th February 2008South West ISA Cross-country
We are delighted to announce that our young people excelled themselves in the South West I.S.A. Cross-country competition. The event began with the Year 5&6 races- this was the first time they had run in such a big event, and despite some children having suffered from travel sickness on the journey, then stitch in the race, they did very well, and showed a lot of promise for the future. Their final positions were:
Katie Fitzsimmons 12th, Hugh Scannell15th, Claudia Ball 15th, Christopher Burrows 22nd, Sanga Saseendran 16th,
Ruth Butcher 18th, Olive Holliday 19th, Gemma Gane 20th.
The Year 7&8 races were run at a furious pace and all of our athletes had to work extremely hard and gained some very good results. Their final positions were:
Francesca Houghton 5th, Philip Bridge 6th, Bethany Trebley 7th, Luca Lepuri 19th, Ellen Bazley 10th, Edward Pratt 24th,
Emily Francis 11th, James Antell 26th, Yasmin Andrews-Urvoy 12th, Johnathan Packer 27th, Harry Grinter 31st ,
Harry Yeoman 32nd.
In the Year 9&10 races the sparks were expected to fly – our girls had won the year 7&8 team title last year and whilst it was a tall order to look for a repeat performance in their first attempt at this age group they were determined to have a go. In the end they had to settle for 2nd placed team, however, they were the only 6 girls in the race who were actually in Year 9 all the other schools athletes were actually Year 10. We are excited by the prospect for next year; nevertheless being the 2nd placed team, in itself, was a great result. Jessica Houghton led her team home with a super 3rd individual place and likewise Edward Butcher ran very well leading his team with 13th. Final placements were:
Jessicca Houghton 3rd, Edward Butcher 13th, Felicity Squires 6th, Ben Gomez 19th, Freyia Crawford 7th, Paul Lang 22nd,
Abigail Squires 8th, Joe Gomez 23rd, Samantha Pratt 11th, Thomas Sankey 24th, Kate Goodenough 13th,
Edward Williamson 30th.
Finally our girls taking part in the Year11+ race has a high reputation to live up too as they have dominated this event in past years. They did not disappoint and hopefully they have inspired our younger runners who were, by now, spectating. Lottie Scanell put on a super display of front running she led from the gun to claim the South West title. Then to show our dominance in this event Emily Wilson stayed close to Lottie to take 2nd place in her first South West race with Rebecca Houghton coming in 7th.
A most successful day for The Park's athletes, and this means that we have 11 pupils going forward really super day to represent the South West at the National Championships in Rugby on Friday 29th February.
