Mrs Anita White retires
27th April 2007After 30 years of service in our school, Mrs Anita White retired at the end of the Spring Term. She had worked tirelessly with her colleagues in the kitchen for most of this time, but Anita had at one time worked as the school librarian for 2 years. She was presented with a painting of South Petherton, her home village, and the place her family have lived for many generations.
For her leaving speech, Anita had written a poem, which made us all laugh. It was so amusing, we felt it should be on the website so that people could enjoy it again.

They came in all shapes, tall and small,
The children who attend our School,
Hard to believe of all possible careers
That I've worked here for 30 years.
"Good morning Rose" I said each day,
"One more, one less" she would say,
We have so much fun as you can see,
We work so hard as hard can be.
Each day I buckle on my skates,
And swiftly clear the breakfast plates,
Then write the menus up for lunch
So everyone knows what to munch!
Set the tables, spoons, knives, forks,
Faster yet than popping corks,
Condiments and water jugs,
Saucers too – remember mugs!
Run a hand through tousled hair,
Open windows, get some air
And stand between them and the door,
Whilst Rach and Tina polish floor.
Later I take over the cleaning of tins
As Di moves on to other things,
I scrub and clean them like a new pin
And sling the rubbish in the bin.
Can't stop too long it's almost noon,
It can't be lunchtime come so soon,
Then Rose and Tina serve with me,
We're like streak lightning, just we three.
I serve the puds and when that is done
I'm hotter than the burning Sun
And someone's shut the window fast
I'm melting now, I will not last.
Then staff and children disappear
And there are tables still to clear,
But now my tasks are nearly done
I can't believe it's been such fun.
I know that I will miss you all
When I no longer work at school
But tell me now – and be polite!
Did I do everything alright?
You certainly did Anita. We shall all miss you.
