Five medals gained in the National Swimming Finals

20th November 2009

Three of our pupils returned from the ISA National Swimming Championships held in Coventry with a total of 5 medals.

Emily, Yasmin and Ross proudly display their medals.

Our three pupils, Yasmin Andrews-Urvoy (Year 9), Emily Bentham and Ross McFarlane (Year 8), receive our warmest congratulations for their successes as part of the swimming team from the South West section of schools.  The day in Coventry proved to a very long one, pupils together with Mr Tulett left at 8am, not returning until 8.30 in the evening.  Ross didn't even enter the water until 4.15pm!  However, the long wait did not adversely affect Ross's performance because in the 50m freestyle relay he gained a bronze medal.  Yasmin was swimming against girls older than herself in the Under 16 category, despite being still 13, so her rewards of three bronze medals in the 100m freestyle, the medley relay and in the freestyle relay are extra special.  In the latter race Yasmin swam the last leg entering the water in 4th place, she stormed down the lane to bring the team home in 3rd position once again claiming another bronze. In the Under 14 age group Emily finished 4th in the individual freestyle, 4th again in the medley relay and then in the freestyle relay she had an inspirational swim to help the team to 2nd place and to gain for herself a silver medal. What a day! 3 school representatives in the South West team, all winning medals, with a total of 5 medals from 8 races. This enabled the South West team to 3rd place in the ISA National Championships.  Well done The Park pupils!
