Fashion Show

9th May 2008

This was a fashion show with a difference!  All the garments had been made from recyclable materials, or materials that had been recycled. Various garments and accessories were displayed by pupils from different year groups, including Year 8 paper fashions - while not known for their hard wearing qualities - they contained the element of surprise in terms of colour and structure!  There were recycled garments made or designed by Year 9 pupils, and GCSE & A Level textile and fashion pieces.  Despite their economical composition, no garment would have looked out of place gracing the platform of any fashion house.

The audience enjoyed musical intermissions with performances from Mr Gentis (Director of Music), Hannah Edwards and Camilla Collins (Year 11), Rachel Saywell and Phoebe Roper, Sophie Mitchell and Jade Pitman (year 10), as part of the show.

It proved to be a very successful and most enjoyable evening.  Mrs Briggs (Head of Art) would like to thank everybody for supporting and helping with this event.  The money raised will pay for the cost of the hire of the equipment and the balance will go to Rebecca Young, a former pupil who works for Skillshare International in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.   This will help her to buy sewing machines for the street children she is helping.  Some of the garments are shown below.

Rachel Saywell models an 'A' level 18th Century costume  designed by Jo-Jo Liu

Alice Gibson models a garment for the 'throw away society'.  Designed and
made by herself with Sophie Mithchell (Year 10).

Frankcesca Houghton sports a paper and cardboard hat which she designed
                                                            herself.

Emily Mangles and Melissa Welch (Year 10) show off their recycled hats
                                made and designed by themselves.

Hannah Grinter (Year 10) in a recycled garment which includes a
climbing rose made from paper and wire.  Created by Francesca
Baldwin as part of her GCSE design project.

Megan Brickley and Jessica Houghton (Year 9) show their own designs based
                                                  on Grecian styles.

Horace Wong and Jo Gomez look cool in their very striking ties - largely made
from paper and cardboard!  Horace created his on his owm.  Jo's tie was
designed and made by himself with help from Johnathan Anderson and
Ben Cheung (also in Year 9).
