25th June 2009
We are delighted to announce that Edward Butcher, with a throw of over 45m, became National Champion in the Javelin at the ISA National Athletics Championships, held at the Alexandra Stadium in Birmingham. Edward is our sixth National Champion in the last 4 years.
With
almost 1000 competitors from all over the country these National
Championships are the most prestigious athletics event that our pupils
compete in. Apart from Edward, Mr Tulett (Head of PE) took five other pupils who had been selected to participate in the event. They all performed magnificently. James Bridge (Year 5) was 4th in the 600m; Abigail Squires (Year 10) was 7th in the 200m; Joe Gomez (Year 10) ran in the 4x100m relay for the south west, his team came 4th; Yasmin Andrews-Urvoy (Year 8) was 5th in shot putt; Felicity Squires (Year 10) was 5th in the 800m.
