Music
A Level
1. The students will complete a set of six piano and/or orchestral arrangements in set styles, then one of them in examination conditions. A composition must be completed for 4-10 instruments in a style of the students’ choosing, or an arrangement of an existing score which includes individual expressive qualities. This section is 30% of the final grade.
2. A recital will be organised and the student must choose the theme of his/her presentation and a visiting moderator will be present and will assess the performance. This is also 30% of the grade in both years.
3. A listening examination will be done and will be inclusive of a set style that the students chooses, and styles set by the examining board. This makes up the remainder of the percentage of points available to the student.
4. This course is not recommended for students that have not done at least grade 5 music theory (Royal Academy), and preferably grade 6.
The students are actively encouraged to be a part of a school performance group, as they will be taking private lessons on an instrument. We have a Jazz Band, Senior Choir and Senior Orchestra at our student’s disposal, and regular performances are scheduled during the school year.
