Physics
Head of Department: Mr Duncan Smith
At The Park School, all pupils take either two or three GCSEs in the Sciences. In Year 10 pupils embark on one of two routes. Either they study for two GCSEs in the combined sciences, the OCR Science A in year ten and Additional Science in year 11, or else they may opt for ‘Triple Science’ and take separate GCSE exams in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Pupils studying the Physics GCSE as a separate subject will complete three written examinations, together with one controlled assessment activity in the subject. The first three modules P1, P2 and P3 are completed in Year 10, while the remaining modules P4, P5 and P6 are and final astronomy based module P7 are studied in Year 11.
Each set of three modules, the P7 module and the Controlled Assessment activity each contribute 25% to the overall grade.
