History

Key Stage 3, Years 7 – 9

Head of Department: Mr Patrick Pender-Cudlip After tracing the rise and fall of the Roman Empire pupils focus on the history of England in the first millennium A.D. Thereafter, from the Norman conquest up to the twentieth century the course shadows the National Curriculum, concentrating on English and British History but also covering relations with Europe and the wider world.

GCSE, Years 10 - 11

Year 10 and 11 pupils follow the WJEC ‘Route A’ course comprising four modules. The first module is a study in depth of Elizabethan England, the second a study in depth of a short period of Russian history and the third a study of almost a hundred years of conflict between Palestinian Arabs, Zionist Jews and their neighbours in the Middle East. The fourth module examines an historical controversy concerning a celebrated twentieth century individual, event or development.

The first three modules are assessed by examination in Year 11. The fourth module is assessed by Controlled Assessment in Year 10 or Year 11.
