Geography at A-level and degree level is considered a qualification for a wide range of career options ranging from law and sociology to soil science and meteorology. The subject demands a wide variety of skills including map reading, essay writing, statistics, practical fieldwork skills, geographical information systems and ICT
Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3 we study a variety of topics ranging from Ordnance survey maps to physical geography topics such as rivers, weather and climate and ecosystems to human geography topics such as development and economic geography. Fieldwork is very important in geography and students enjoy a day’s river study, a trip to the Eden Project and one to the Meteorological Office at RNAS Yeovilton.
Key Stage 4
Students take a modular course allowing one paper to be sat at the end of year 10. The second written paper and the controlled assessment are sat in year 11. This means that physical and human geography are taught in different years and these are supported by fieldwork in Bristol and at Lulworth Cove.
