Drama
Head of Department: Mrs Sarah Scannell
Drama in our school seeks to establish good practice for group work, encourage a love of theatre as well as lay the foundations for the future. The term is divided into different stages which open up various aspects of the subject including improvisation, script work, design sessions and performing. Pupils have the opportunity outside lesson time to get involved with the technical aspects of theatre, through wardrobe, sound, lighting and stage crew.
Throughout the year, we aim to see self-confidence growing through students' greater understanding of the subject: group dynamics the expressive nature of the voice and body and the awareness of the impact we make on each other as individuals and in groups.
The GCSE course allows pupils to explore a wide range of theatrical styles, offering variety in terms of performance and design potential, providing many opportunities for the study of devised drama scripted work, costume, lighting, make up and masks, physical theatre, stage fighting, dance and musical theatre.
