Biology
Head of Department: Mr David Ennals
At the Park School, all pupils take either two or three GCSEs in the Sciences. In Year 10 pupils embark on one of two routes. Either they study for two GCSEs in the combined sciences, the OCR Science A in year ten and Additional Science in year 11, or else they may opt for ‘Triple Science’ and take separate GCSE exams in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Pupils studying the Biology GCSE as a separate subject will complete three written examinations, together with one controlled assessment activity in the subject. The first three modules B1, B2 and B3, and final module B7 are studied in Year 10 while the remaining modules B4, B5 and B6 are covered in Year 11.
Each set of three modules, the B7 module and the Controlled Assessment activity each contribute 25% to the overall grade.
