Science

Head of Department: Mr Duncan Smith

The Park School Science department has four dedicated laboratories, supported by our own technicians, where pupils can explore the wonders of this exciting and ever more essential subject.

Key Stage 3 Science

In years seven to nine pupils follow an integrated course in science under the guidance of our dedicated staff. The national science curriculum is studied in depth and key skills of observation, research and analysis are developed in preparation for later GCSE study.

Key Stage 4 Science

At key stage 4 all pupils take either two or three GCSEs in the Sciences. In Year 10 pupils embark on one of two possible routes. Either they study for two GCSEs in the combined sciences, the OCR Science A in Year ten, and Additional Science in Year 11, or else they may opt for ‘Triple Science’ and take separate GCSE examinations in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Assessments of the Science and Additional Science GCSE both comprise three written papers and a controlled assessment task. Each contributes 25% to the overall grade. The written papers each assess three of the nine modules studied, three in Biology, three in Chemistry and three in Physics.

Details of the three separate GCSEs are included in their subject entries.
