Our Diplomats take London by storm - photo extra!!
A year ago we took just three delegates to our first ever Model United Nations Conference. Last week we returned to Lady Eleanor Holles School in Hampton with sixteen delegates, more than any other school bar one, representing Italy, Jamaica, Romania and The People's Republic of China.

In the MUN as in life it is often what goes on behind the scenes that matters most and our more experienced delegates have taken this lesson to heart: within minutes of arriving they were seeking out suggestible or corruptible allies in the Secretariat, the Press and the 150 delegates from other schools. As Our Lord remarked, "the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light"!
Our wise children were duly rewarded. Every single one of them spoke in Committee and some were so adept at catching the eye of their Committee Chairmen that they were able to speak virtually at will.

On the third and final day of the Conference our delegates brushed aside the snow that kept many delegates away and they so impressed the other members of their Committees that they received no fewer than eleven unofficial awards. They also dominated all three issues of the Conference Newspaper with over thirty mentions or photographs, including three full-page spreads, and Aaron won the highly coveted Press Award for The Most Humorous Delegate at the Conference.

Most of the real work at the MUN is done in the 40-strong Committees and it was here that the superb contribution of three of our senior delegates received official recognition. Thomas was Highly Commended for his work on The Political Committee and Aaron was declared the Outstanding Delegate on the Economic and Social Committee. Adam received the top accolade as the Outstanding Delegate on the Security Council. As is clear from the photographs below, in just a year The Park has become a force to be reckoned with at the Model United Nations.

Mr Pender-Cudlip also deserves our gratitude and praise for inspiring and coaching our young delegates. His enthusiasm is infectious and his time commitment thoroughly unselfish – Editor
