HAPPY NEW YEAR
Welcome back to a new year and a new term. I hope you have all had a lovely holiday and are now refreshed and ready to face the challenges of this new term. We had a very successful week for our Preparing for Christmas Holiday Club for 5 – 11year olds. This is becoming increasingly popular with parents and pupils alike and we are expanding the facility this year. Dates for holiday club for the rest of this academic year are:
13 – 17 February (half term week)
28 – 30 March (3 days after the end of term)
10 – 13 and 16 – 17 April (6 days after Easter)
6 – 8 June (after Bank holiday, during half term)
23 – 27 July, 30 July – 3 August, 6 – 10 August, 13 – 17 August
REPORTS AND NEWSLETTERS
I hope you are all happy with the new report format and the new method of sending out reports by email. This has proved very cost effective and is obviously going to be 'greener,' as it saves a large amount of paper. We are intending to send the newsletter to all families via email from next week. If you would prefer to continue with the paper copy delivered by your child, please let us know and we will issue a copy for you. If we hear nothing from you we will email from next Friday.

Fixtures next week: Tuesday 10th January 14 Basketball, u15 Basketball, Primary Cross-country. Wednesday 11th u9 Mixed Hockey, u11 Football. Thursday 12th January u15 Basketball, u16 Hockey. Friday 13th January South Somerset Schools Year 7-13 Cross-country.

All pupils selected for representative matches must travel in a school tracksuit and wear the correct match strip:
ALL PUPILS ARE REMINDED NOT TO LEAVE ANYTHING IN THE CHANGING ROOMS AFTER PE OR GAMES LESSONS. YOUR PERSONAL BELONGINGS ARE YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY. ALL PUPILS ARE ALSO REMINDED THAT SHIN PADS ARE COMPULSORY FOR FOOTBALL AND HOCKEY AND MOUTH GUARDS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR HOCKEY.

Photos have now been received in the school office. Orders are being sorted and will be distributed in the next few days.
SCHOLARSHIP EXAMS
The scholarship exams for September 2012 will take place on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd February. Scholarships are available for 8+ (Year 5 in Sept 2012), 11+ (Year 7 in Sept 2012), 13+ (Year 9 in Sept 2012) and 16+ (Year 12 in Sept 2012). Scholarships are awarded for Academic Merit, Art, Drama, Music and Sport. For scholarship application forms and further details, please see Miss Meller in the school office.
CHRISTMAS CARD SALE
The packs of Christmas Cards designed by the 6 winning students have now been reduced in price. Be ready early for next Christmas and come and buy some packs of cards at £2 per pack either as a mixed pack or one design. They can be purchased from the Senior School Office.
CHINESE NEW YEAR
There is a competition to celebrate the Chinese New Year on the 23rd January. We would like you to design a 'Dragon Poster'. Maximum size of A3 and all entries to Mrs Twist or Mrs Edney by 19th February.
YEAR 11 BTEC SPORT
The Fitness, Training and Lifestyle Factors Unit 1 assignment is now closed.
The Assessing Fitness Level - Unit 1 assignment is now closed.
YEAR 10 BTEC SPORT
The Musculoskeletal Systems for Anatomy and Physiology for Sport Unit 4 assignment is now closed.
YEAR 10 BTEC SPORT
Students have been issued with their Cardio-respiratory Systems for Anatomy and Physiology for Sport Unit 4 assignment – hand in dates are:
Draft 1: 5th January
Draft 2: 17th January
Draft 3 24th January
Assignment closes on 6th February after which no further work will be accepted.
