DEBATING SOCIETY
This week we debated the motion, This house believes that instead of wasting money on Christmas presents for friends and families we should send it to Africa and Asia to help the world's poorest people. Anyone expecting arrant selfishness on the one hand or canting claptrap on the other would have been disappointed. There was compassion but no sentimentality and many of the arguments about the ethical, economic, political and social problems of humanitarian aid were highly sophisticated. Every Year group was represented from Year 7 to the Upper Sixth including Zoe Braddick, Grace Busby,
Lucy Eaton-Ball, Tamsin Eddey, Olive Holliday, Jessica Howes, Ross Mangles, Louis Patterson,
Faith Parker, Chloe Samuel, Thomas Sankey,
Kami Singh, Dominic Stephens, Kate Tomsett, Lucy Turner, Olivia Walker, Emily Williams and
Elena Williamson. Most members spoke several times and the debate was so lively that even the Chairman, Kate Gould, could not help joining in. The motion was lost by a single vote, with three abstentions.
SLESSOR PANCAKE AND CAKE SALE
A big 'thank you' to those members of Slessor House who provided cakes for the sale, the 6th Formers who organised it and members of the school who bought the pancakes and cakes. £43.00 was raised for
