KEY STAGE 1 STAR CHARTS

Congratulations to Nidal Shah who has completed his star chart this week. Well done. Keep up the good work.

BIRTHDAY CONGRATULATIONS

February seems to be a popular month for birthdays amongst the Juniors. We send our birthday wishes to Archie Mabey who was 4 on Tuesday, Zaara Rahman, 4, and Andrej Divakov, 6, both on Wednesday,

Grace Pamplin, 7 on Valentine's Day and

Megan Titchener who will be 9 on February 17th. Congratulations to you all. Enjoy your day.

MY MATHS

Over the next few weeks, children in years 5 and 6 will be issued with codes to access 'MyMaths'. This is an online mathematics site that provides structured practice at appropriate levels for each individual child. Your child will be given a letter with all the relevant information and we hope to be able to use 'MyMaths' in lessons as well as for prep. Should you have any queries, please ask your child's teacher.

GCSE SCIENCE COURSEWORK

Year 11 Pupils who completed their extra science coursework on Monday are reminded that help will be given after school next Thursday in the ICT suite. This is an opportunity to discuss your results and evaluation. The final copy is due in immediately after half term.

Year 10 pupils will be conducting their Investigation or Data analysis on Thursday 23rd February. The triple science class (Biology) will need to have collected their secondary data and internet research prior to that day as it will be part of the controlled write-up.

THIS YEAR, THE YR 10 WRITE-UP IS UNDER CONTROLLED CONDITIONS. Please bring pencils, rulers, calculators and a laptop if you wish to use your own for the write-up.

THE DEBATING SOCIETY

Three motions were debated by the Society this week, at two separate meetings. They ranged from the parochial ("Sweets should be banned in school") to the political ("Capital Punishment should be restored") to the transcendental ("Being raised in any religion is harmful to children and they should chose for themselves when they are adults"). Opinions were sharply divided and, as ever in The Society, the arguments were keenly fought with virtually every member intervening in the debate several times. Those present included Felix Powell, Kammy Singh, Zoe Braddick, Luke Brickley, Lucy Eaton-Ball,

Emily Williams, Kate Tomsett, Kate Gould,

Lucy Turner, Emily Mennell, Olive Holliday,

Jeannette Franks, Louis Patterson and Ross Mangles.

Congratulations to three of our senior debaters, Tamsin Eddey, Thomas Sankey and Adam Coppard, who last took on five other teams in Rotary International's Youth Speaks competition and won.

HEALTHY SCHOOLS

The Junior Department is now working towards gaining the prestigious Healthy Schools Award. Thank you to everyone who is helping us in this project. Initial results are very encouraging, though a brief reminder that cereal bars containing any chocolate will contain much larger amounts of fat and sugar so they should not be brought to school. Keep watching this space for details of how the initiative is progressing.
