World War One - In a suitcase

We were delighted when Toby Stok came into school recently, bringing with him a suitcase that would give the pupils in years 5, 6 and 7, an amazing insight into the personal life of a soldier in the trenches during World War One.

Engineering Champions again!

Our Year 11 students became Engineering Champions for the second year in succession after competing in the Fleet Air Arm's Annual Engineering Challenge held at Yeovilton.  The successful team is pictured here with the trophy which was presented by Mr Fred Ditchburn (Chief Aircraft Engineer) in school assembly.  Ross proudly displays the winning design!

Our Diplomats take London by storm - photo extra!!

A year ago we took just three delegates to our first ever Model United Nations Conference. Last week we returned to Lady Eleanor Holles School in Hampton with sixteen delegates, more than any other school bar one, representing Italy, Jamaica, Romania and The People's Republic of China.

The General Assembly in session.   The empty tables belong to delegations who  failed to make it because of heavy snow but our delegates for Romania and The People's Republic of China are at their stations (bottom right).

In the MUN as in life it is often what goes on behind the scenes that matters most and our more experienced delegates have taken this lesson to heart:  within minutes of arriving they were seeking out suggestible or corruptible allies in the Secretariat, the Press and the 150 delegates from other schools. As Our Lord remarked, "the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light"!

Year 8 writers delight the Junior classes with their stories

Year 8 Writers delight Junior classes with their stories

Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 enjoyed a real treat when members of Year 8 came over to join them for a special English lesson.

The older pupils had prepared some original engaging stories, pitched perfectly to suit these age-groups. There were a wide variety of themes to stimulate their imaginations, and suit all interests including tales of princesses, elves, animal stories, a monkey island and many more.

It's a Hat Trick!

We are so proud of our Year 11 Public Speaking Team.   They have just become District Champions in the Public Speaking Competition run by the English Speaking Union and this means that we have won the ESU Public Speaking Cup three years in succession - a triumph!
